Pingtung County Government

With Kaohsiung County on the west and Taitung County on the east, Pingtung County occupies 2,775 square kilometers overing thirty-three towns and has a population of less than one million.

Below the Tropic of Capricorn, the weather here is hot and humid in summer but mild and regulated by the ocean in autumn and winter.Take a look at a map of Pingtung and you will find that it is narrow and long. From the north to the south, the county is rich in unrivaled landscapes: the imposing Central Mountains, the overwhelming waterfalls hidden in the deep mountains and spacious oceanic views.

Pingtung possesses four important forest parks: Shuankuei Lake Nature Reserve, Mount Tawu Nature Reserve, Chinshuiyin Nature Reserve and Mount Chachayalai Nature Reserve .This county is surrounded by the ocean in three sides giving any ecology research done on its seashore much value. Its clean and peaceful beaches cradled along its long coastline are a paradise for summer leisure activities on water.

As the home of Paiwan Tribe and Lukai Tribe, Pingtung's Sandimen boasts of having authentic aboriginal culture manifested in traditional houses built on stone plates & distinctive tattoos and delicate wood sculptures found in remote villages scattered in the mountains.

Along the seashore of the west side, simple and unadorned fishing villages offer abundant fresh seafood. Centuries-old sites such as the Tunglong Temple contain much history and various scenic spots on "Little Okinawa" (Hsiau Liouchiou), increase the charm of this tropical county.
